The Problem

Challenges Faced

Amped Up Car Audio's BigCommerce store was carrying recurring technical SEO issues across multiple Ahrefs crawls, a URL structure where category and brand pages were competing for the same paths, and limited platform access that was blocking the fixes that actually required it.

Owner Access Blocking Template-Level Fixes

Without owner access to BigCommerce, theme files, category structures, and product settings couldn't be edited directly — meaning a real share of the fixable issues had to wait, no matter how quickly they were diagnosed.

Category & Brand URLs Competing for the Same Path

Category pages and brand pages were meant to live at separate paths — categories at their own slug, brands under /brands/ — but the two structures were conflicting, with category URLs redirecting into brand URLs instead of staying independent.

Recurring 3xx, Schema & On-Page Issues

New fixable issues kept surfacing across successive Ahrefs crawls as the catalog changed — 3xx redirects, schema errors, title tags that were too short, and internal links still pointing to insecure HTTP URLs.

No Page Speed Baseline in Place

Before any speed work could be planned, a proper before-state benchmark needed to be captured across the site's core pages so future improvements could be measured against something concrete.

The Solution

Our Strategy

A steady fix-and-verify cycle — resolve everything possible immediately, push for the access needed to fix the rest, and get the URL architecture right at the source.

01
Technical Audit & Access Recovery
  •
Ran repeated Ahrefs crawls to track fixable issues as they appeared across the catalog
  •
Resolved every issue that didn't require deeper platform access — title tags, insecure HTTP internal links, and select schema fixes — while waiting on owner access
  •
Pushed for and secured BigCommerce owner access, unblocking theme, category, and product-level fixes that had been on hold
02
Category vs. Brand URL Architecture
  •
Diagnosed the conflict between category URLs and brand URLs competing for the same path structure
  •
Documented the intended architecture — categories on their own slug, brands nested under /brands/ — and raised it directly with the client for confirmation
  •
Prepared the category-to-brand redirect fix for implementation once BigCommerce owner access was secured
03
Ongoing Ahrefs Crawl & Fix Cycle
  •
Ran successive Ahrefs audits, fixing 3xx redirects, schema errors, short title tags, and insecure HTTP internal links as each new crawl surfaced them
  •
Cleared every automatically fixable issue, confirmed in the final August 13, 2024 crawl report, with only manually fixable items left for the client
  •
Flagged the remaining manually fixable issues directly to the client rather than leaving them undocumented
04
Page Speed Baseline
  •
Captured full before-state page speed reports and screen recordings across the site's core pages
  •
Queued page speed optimization work to begin once BigCommerce owner access was in place
